Review
Don't let the packaging or storyline fool you into thinking this is a child's game. Bubble Bobble is a game that will appeal to people of all ages. While at first it didn't seem like too great a game, but the more I played the more I got hooked on it.
Each level fits on the Game Gear screen in a clear and precise manner. As can be expected every level is finished very quickly; that is why there are so many. As one of the bubble breathing dinosaurs you use one button to blow bubbles and the other to jump. With such easy controls and a simple concept anyone can pick up this game and play right away.
Bubble Bobble may be easy to play it is not as incredibly easy to defeat as it may sound. There is a sufficient challenge in getting through all of the levels. Of course, the included password feature makes the game much easier to defeat since you will not have to start all over every time you play.
The background graphics are not detailed which is for the best. Typically the primary background is a black screen but that keeps the action smooth and easy to follow. Around the screen are colored platforms with a design on them, usually a pattern of shapes. Although small, the characters are fairly detailed and look just like miniature dinosaurs. Blowing bubbles is the main sound effect, as is the sound of popping bubbles.
Bubble Bobble takes only a minute to learn, but many hours to win. It is fun to play for a little while at a time which is perfect for a portable game.
