IMG International Tour Tennis

Review

by Jonathan Sutyak

Not every sports title by Electronic Arts plays great and this is one of them. Though IMG International Tour Tennis doesn't contain great gameplay you will be hard pressed to find a more realistic tennis game on the Sega Genesis.

It is great that 32 real pros are included but they all feel the same. If one pro has a stronger serve it is not very apparent. None of them have identifiable characteristics either. All of their movements are awkward. Unless you can stop and swing at the exact movement you will swing right through the ball. There is a practice option but it is not the same as an actual game. Another disappointment is that you have to play as a pro and cannot create yourself.

The different modes of play and variety of shots all give the game a realistic touch. Arguing calls and different play surfaces are also exceptional features. Singles and doubles play is great. Doubles is a perfect way to make use of the 4-Way Play adapter. Electronic Arts also includes their usual instant replay and user record features.

Graphics are not too appealing but I suppose tennis courts are not either. Sounds are bland but again tennis sounds are bland in real life too. A voice annouces each score and other things such as when the ball is out.

IMG International Tennis is basically realistic tennis. It is boring to watch and because of the poor gameplay it is boring to play. The computer is not a sufficient challenge even with the poor gameplay. Having four players can at least be fun.
