Review
Cobra Command is a straight out point and click shooter, meaning that you simply move a cursor around on top of some video footage, pushing a button, hoping that it lined up correctly. This also means that nothing ever changes. Every time you play the game, it'll be the same. Still, Cobra Command pulls off the same feat that Starblade did on the 3DO and PlayStation.
The speed and situations you'll encounter are nothing short of inspired. You'll find yourself swerving down New York streets, weaving between gunfire in the Atlantic, blasting through Italy, and finally, surviving the trecherous corners and return fire of the enemy's stronghold.
Once again, however, a good game is tarnished by the Sega CD's limited color pallette, giving everything a bland look. It's acceptable through most of the game as everything is moving by fast enough, but at certain occasions you'll simply be looking at a solid field of color. A bit disorienting at times, but forgivable.
Not surprising is the lack of music in this game, coming out of the arcades where you can hardly hear to begin with. The theme is nice and high quality while the effects sound a bit grainy and do get repetitive after a while.
If you don't mind the lack of gameplay and are up for a quick 20 minute thrill ride in your own home, then give Cobra Command a try. It may not last long or look particularly good, but will still have you enticed to see what's next.
Graphics
Bland coloring accompanies the game's decent animation
Sound
It seems there was really only one piece of music here. Sound effects are decent, if a bit grainy
Enjoyment
It's a blast to play! You'll never know what's next and the number of enemies will keep you busy
Replay Value
Designed as an arcade game, it's no surprise this game doesn't last much longer than 20 minutes
Documentation
A rather plain manual with only vague descriptions of the story and controls
