D

Review

by Josh Babich

D a game of horror and mystery. It is an average game that moves at a slow pace, but offers some disturbing scenes of horror. If you don't particularly like gore, blood, and morbid storylines in a video game, then don't give D a second thought. Gameplay is very slow, which helps set the eerie mood for the horror aspect of the game. This game is guaranteed to affect you. If you turn out the lights and turn up the sound it might just get you to jump out of your seat.

D must be completed within two hours, you can't save or even pause it. Fail to beat the game in two real time hours and you have to start all over again. So if you have to go to the bathroom, do it before you start playing. The lack of a game save really cuts down on the fun of this game -- nobody wants to repeat all of the puzzles they just completed.

The graphics are completely pre-rendered in 3D. Even though it is in 3D there isn't much freedom of movement, as paths are predetermined. Background graphics are smooth and crisp. Flashback cut scenes are great, adding to the surrounding atmosphere.

D's most glaring problem is the lack of replay value. The lack of a save feature will force you to finish the game in one sitting. Puzzles are easy, which is good so that you can finish the game in the allotted two hours, but bad in that there is very little challenge to the game. While multiple endings exist, there is very little reason to play this game a second time since you already know the complete story and how to solve all of the puzzles.
