Synopsis
The Axe: Titans of Classic Rock is an interactive music simulation where one or two players can select instruments and play along with their favorite classic rock songs from the late 1960s and early 1970s. Using joystick, mouse, or keyboard controls, players control the speed, pitch, and rhythm of eight selectable musical instruments.
Players select classic rock songs from bands including The Who, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, and The Kinks, among others, and head into one of four Interactive Music Videos (IMVs). These IMVs, which include abstract images, music notation, and animated musicians, create a visual presentation for the song being played. The Tutorial IMV teaches new players how to use The Axe's controls.
Each of the eight instruments in The Axe has its own special sound effects and abilities. With the guitar selected, players can play chords by holding down the Effect button. With the trumpet, the Effect button creates a trill. Players can also create "riffs" using each instrument. Hitting the Riff button can then repeat these riffs throughout the song.
Each song created using The Axe is stored and can be saved and replayed. The software includes several sample songs.

Extra Credits
The Axe: Titans of Classic Rock is unlike any other game of which I am aware. PaRappa the Rapper comes close, but The Axe is basically a front-runner in its genre.
