Review
If you've ever liked science fiction or any of the Wing Commander series' previous titles, you owe it to yourself to viciously hunt down a copy of Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger.
Not only does the game sport an ensamble cast featuring the likes of Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Jason Bernard, John Rhys-Davies and Malcolm McDowell, a superbly written story, gorgeous animated and acted cut-scenes and a kickin' space sim, it's also one of the most involving experiences I've had since gaming began.
When not engaged in space combat you can journey all over the TCS Victory and interact with the various characters in the game. At specific times you'll be given a choice of things to say that can seriously alter the outcome of the game. You'll also be pulled into plot points where the game starts to take interesting twists.
As for the game itself, cramming a whole keyboard of commands into the lowly 3DO controller will definitely have you busy, but as soon as you memorize what does what you'll be blasting away at everything.
The sprite-based graphics are a bit pixelly, but it's all believable and frantic enough that you'll hardly have time to notice.
In my opinion, Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger is the best of the series, incorporating an epic galactic war and a storyline worthy of a movie. The action is fast and furious and requires a bit of thinking as well.
Graphics
Perfectly rendered backgrounds with nearly flawless blue-screen work. In-game graphics are pixelly and 2D-ish, but believable.
Sound
A great score, though some of the themes get a bit repetitive. Plenty of sound effects and well-acted voices.
Enjoyment
There's plenty of blasting action that'll have you loving every second of the game.
Replay Value
Success or failure can determine future missions, and you'll want to know how the characters respond to all of your many possible actions.
Documentation
Tons of information is packed within the pamphlets and booklets that come with this game.
