Synopsis
Track & Field for the Apple II is based on the 1983 hit arcade game from Konami. Go for the gold by competing in head-to-head competition in six track and field events. Up to four players can test their skills in events such as the 100 Meter Dash, Long Jump, Javelin Throw, 110 Meter Hurdles, Hammer Throw and the High Jump. The winner takes home the gold medal.
Track & Field relies heavily on the player's timing, finesse and button pressing speed in order to reach qualifying times and scores. Since controlling the athletes with precision is key to Track & Field, Atari included a special controller (consisting of two "Run" buttons and a "Jump/Throw" button) that must be used to play the game.
Extra Credits
Track & Field was a groundbreaking game in that pressing the buttons alternately to run fast was a true innovation. The game influenced Decathlon, Hyper Sports, Track & Field II and numerous other titles. Later versions featured trackball control.
