Synopsis
Takeda is a real-time war game set during the Sengoku period, the Age of Strife, at the height of Japan's feudal era. Three modes of play: historical, head-to-head, and campaign, offer players a chance to lead their house against all opposition to gain land and power. The focus is on realistic battle strategy through the manipulation of army divisions rather than individual units, with no requirement to manage resource development. Weapons, unit types, and fighting styles of the era are historically and accurately reproduced.
As the legendary Takeda Shingen, a 16th generation Daimyo, your task is to bring peace to the land and honor to your family by conquering enemies and becoming the Emperor of Japan. Battles are won through strategic use of weapons, the proper chain of command, and formations. Gaining access to new technologies (e.g., the rifle) introduced into the Far East during this era goes a long way to ensuring success.
Historical Battle mode focuses on specific battles with no extraneous matters such as diplomacy or economics to worry about, while head-to-head action uses the same battles but allows two players to compete over a modem, LAN or the Internet. The non-linear, single-player Campaign events, based on Takeda Shingen's real-life exploits, are driven by the outcome of battles, decisions (diplomatic, political, strategic and economic), and success on the battlefield; thus, multiple endings are possible.
