Digimon: BattleSpirit [European]

Synopsis

by Scott Alan Marriott

Bandai's popular franchise makes its Game Boy Advance debut with the release of Digimon: BattleSpirit. The game is a timed fighting contest taking place in one of seven side-scrolling environments, allowing characters to escape from harm's way or to re-position themselves on higher ground for more strategic attacks. The levels also feature hazards, such as pitfalls and obstacles to avoid, to further challenge players as they engage in the series of one-on-one battles against the computer or a friend.

Instead of reducing their opponent's life meter to zero, however, players use their Digimon to collect as many spheres (called D-Spirit Balls) as they can before time expires. Attacking a rival Digimon causes it to drop any collected D-Spirit, allowing the rival a chance to quickly snatch them up. The Digimon with the most spheres at the end of the time limit is considered the winner. Each of the seven characters offers different abilities depending on the type selected, and two-player simultaneous competition is supported via Game Link Cable.
