Review
It's tail time! With that, Gex is off on a mission to stop the evil Rez from taking over TV, Gex's favorite pasttime. Setting off into each of the game's unique worlds (horror, action, cartoon, etc.), you'll find new challenges, unique gameplay, and some hilarious one-liners as you traverse this massively rewarding action/platformer.
Probably the most redeeming feature of this game are Dana Gould's one-liners and jokes. Even when they're not funny (rarely), they still add a million times to Gex's personality and can keep you going when things get frustrating. The content isn't all geared towards kids either. Remarks venture into teenager/adult territory with mentions of Soylent Green and Star Trek. More importantly, Gex wears Dana's voice well. Someone like Sylvester Stallone would make the thin and agile Gex look completely ridiculous.
The game offers tons of levels and secrets as well as several end bosses that you'll have to think quickly and act quicker to defeat. Each of the worlds features a handful of similarly themed levels; long and challenging, rife with secrets, power ups, and extra lives. Gex doesn't butt bounce these baddies like Mario however. He's got a tail attack that's faster than lightning and can suck up some assorted flies to power up with fireballs and invincibility.
Lasting weeks on end, Gex features just the right mix of action, humor, attitude, challenge, and secrets. If you're a fan of the action/platform genre and own a 3DO (or a Playstation or Saturn) then give Gex the once over! You won't be disappointed.
