SuperGrafx

Biography

by Skyler Miller

Designed as a follow up to the popular PC Engine, the SuperGrafx is essentially a superpowered PC Engine with arcade-quality visuals. The system was intended to compete against the Mega Drive and Super Famicom, and could play all PC Engine games in addition to enhanced titles made specifically for the console. The system died a quick death due to both to its high price and public satisfaction with the original PC Engine. Only five enhanced games were released, and a planned adaptation of Strider was cancelled. A U.S. version of the SuperGrafx was never released.
